THE LOG MASTER AND SPLIT SHIFTS
One of the peculiararities of the new rules is that when logging
split shifts the program cannot acutally check the previous entries
until you have completed your breaks. This can cause the program to
give you strange numbers on occasion -
For example: You are using split shifts and you are near the end of
the day when you exceed your 14 hours on duty on line 4. See below:
(note the new field that shows ON DUTY:16/REMAINING:-2)

Log created using
The Truckers Helper Log Master. It is now legal to
keep your logs in your computer if you comply with the
FMCSA Rules on this.
In this situation the program will eliminate the 6 hour sleeper break
at this point because the current break is only 2 hours (so the last
and previous only equal 8 hours). Once you move to the next day and
enter the rest of the break (last and previous must equal 10 or more)
this will reinstate the 6 hour sleeper break and the display will
return to normal. This will only happen if you:
are over your 14 hours and
are at the end of the day and are only logging a part of
the next sleeper period.
OVER 14 WHILE DRIVING -
In the above example the over 14 was on line 4 and does not constitute
a violation. IF YOU ARE DRIVING when you exceed the 14 hours on duty that
will create a violation! However, the program cannot actually determine
whether a violation will exist in this case until you finish entering your
OFF DUTY time. Going OFF DUTY for 10 or more hours will cause the partial
sleeper to fall into the 14 hour calculation creating a violation. Had you
instead gone to the sleeper the next day (before completing the 10 hours
OFF DUTY) for an additional 4 hours, that would have validated the 6 hour
SLEEPER and the violation would not have occurred.

On the following day, when you finish your break OFF DUTY the program will
create a violation, and will inform you that the entry you made created
a violation on the previous day.
