SETTING UP A NEW QUICK BOOKS FILE:
Open Quick Books. If you already have a company setup close that company or select FILE/NEW COMPANY.
Complete the company portion of the interview. At the conclusion of this section Quick Books will tell you it's ready to create your company. Once the company file is created click LEAVE and exit the interview.
You will now have a blank company file with only 1 account (Retained Earnings).
You can now use the Export Function to export your data.
